Buttermilk |
I have grown up drinking buttermilk pretty much everyday. I am not much of a yogurt rice eater, so my mom made sure i had atleast one glass of buttermilk after my meals. Andhra meals are spicy, so drinking buttermilk after the meals had really helped my tummy to cooling down.
In fact in our family all the adults as well as the kids are very fond of majjiga and would drink up glasses of this salted churned goodness at any part of the day.I also remember during summer times our uncles and the gumastas would bring dozens of the store bought pouches of buttermilk for us to drink.
On day to day basis i keep it simple by just adding salt and water to the curd. Whip it up and drink.
Occasionally i make this version. Add ginger, green chilly, curry leaves , coriander leaves, water and salt to the curds . Whisk , strain and serve.
Recipe:
- plain curd/yogurt- 1 cup ( 1% or toned milk)
- Water- 2 ½ cups
- small green chilly slit
- few ginger pieces
- few curry leaves and coriander leaves ( tear them)
- Salt to taste and
- lemon juice to taste (optional)
Put all these in a container, whisk for good two minutes. Strain and serve.
