About the recipe

Crusty whole loaf bread is filled with a mixture of melted butter, herbs, garlic and cheese. It is baked till crispy and the cheese has melted.

I bet no one can resist this crusty garlicy cheese bread and the best part is it so easy to put together.

A perfect side dish to include in your Thanksgiving or Christmas menu.

This garlic pull apart bread

  • Uses store bought bread and simple pantry ingredients
  • Is a delicious appetizer
  • Prep ahead and bake in the last minute
  • A great side for any kind of main course

Ingredient note:

Bread – Highly recommended using sour dough or French bread. You want the whole loaf which is not sliced. You can find them near the bakery isle of the grocery store.

Garlic– fresh garlic is preferred, but if you don’t prefer fresh garlic, garlic powder will work too. You may need to add more of it.

Chili Sauce – is totally optional. The Indian in me always likes things little spicy so add it. I used Schezwan chutney which I bought it in Indian store.

Cheese – Mozzarella cheese is highly recommended, when melted it beautifully stretches.

Step by Step Photo Instructions:

Garlic Butter –

Melt the butter in a microwave safe bowl. Add the grated garlic, finely chopped parsley, black pepper, Italian herbs, chili sauce and salt. Mix it well

Cheese –

Shred the cheese, I used mostly mozzarella and a small amount of colby jack cheese.

Cutting & Filling the bread with  garlic butter-

1 – Cut the bread diagonally with a serrated knife about 1 inch wide, making sure you do not go all the way to the bottom of the bread.

2 – Turn the bread around and cut them again to form diamond pattern.

3 – Slightly open up the cuts and using a spoon fill the pockets with the garlic butter. Be patient and apply all over the bread. Its worth it. Save 1 -2 teaspoons of the garlic butter to be applied on top of the bread.

4 – Now add the grated the cheese making sure you stuff with cheese on all the cuts.

Apply the saved garlic butter on top of the bread.

5 & 6 – Cover it with a foil and bake in the preheated oven at 350 F or 180 C for 17 – 19 minutes. Remove the foil on the top and bake further for another 5 -7 minutes till lightly brown and crisp on the top.

Remove the bread, garnish with chopped parsley and serve.

Serving Suggestions –

Serve the garlic pull apart bread with warm marinara sauce and enjoy as is.

Pro Tips –

  • Use Sour dough or French bread for best results.
  • Fresh garlic is recommended, but if you don’t like the strong garlic flavor use garlic powder.
  • Use block cheese and grate it at home, it melts nicely.

FAQs

Can I prep it ahead?

Yes, use softened butter not the melted butter. Stuff the bread with softened butter – garlic mixture and cheese and wrap it with a foil and place it in the refrigerator. When ready bake in the preheated oven.
