Savory Indian style waffles made with Green Moong Dal dosa batter. These waffles can be enjoyed for breakfast, brunch or snack.
Green Moong Dal Dosa also called as Pesarattu is a classic breakfast dish from Andhra and Telangana. I make it quite often at home, as it is highly nutritious and filling.
While we adults enjoy it, kids tend to be little fussy when I offer them this dosa. So I started serving them as waffles and they liked it.
I serve these Indian savory waffles with onion chutney (recipe coming soon) or ginger chutney.
Why serve the Green Moong Dal Dosa as Waffle?
- When served as waffles, it is grab and go kind of breakfast.
- Pour the batter and waffle maker will do the job.
- keeps you full for long time
- Its vegan and gluten free
- It is liked by both kids and adults.
Ingredients:
Green Moong Dal – use whole green moong dal
Step by Step Method:
1- Wash and soak the green moong dal in plenty of water for 8 hours or overnight. After 8 hours, rinse the dal and drain the water completely.
2 – Add the dal to a blender. Add the green chili, ginger and cumin seeds.
3 – Add ¾th cup of water and grind the dal. It should be ground well but doesn’t have to be super smooth.
4 – In a plate add finely chopped onion, grated carrot and chopped coriander. Mix it well.
5 – Transfer the batter to a large bowl and add the onion mixture.
6 – Add salt and mix the batter. If you feel the batter is too thick add some water, not too much. I added ¼th cup of water to the batter.
7 – Preheat the waffle maker and spray some oil. To my round waffle maker I added about ¾th cup of the batter in the middle.
8 – Using a spatula spread the batter to fill the cavities and drizzle some oil ( optional).
9 – Cook the waffle as per instructions. You can select the desired level depending on your preference. It may take 3-4 minutes for the waffle to cook. Once done, gently remove the waffle with a spatula and serve it with chutney.
Serving Suggestions:
Green Moong Dal Dosa waffles can be served with Indian Style chutney’s or Maggi sweet and spicy chili sauce.

Notes:
Make sure you soak the dal for atleast 8 hours or preferably over night before grinding it.
Though it tastes best when eaten right away, you can reheat them in a toaster oven. If it looks dry, sprinkle some water before toasting.
