Broccoli  which comes from the cabbage family is packed with nutritional benefits. They are high in dietary fibre and Vitamin C. According to wikipidea broccoli reduces the risk of prostate cancer and also helps in preventing heart disease.

You can use broccoli is pasta’s, salad’s, slaw’s, as a side dish…
Never over cook these florets, it needs very little cooking.  Whether steamed or sauteed make sure the vibrant green color stays and they are crunchy.

I try to bring broccoli every week. I make a simple saute using our Indian spices. Very proud to say that my toddler loves this way of eating the broccoli.

Recipe:
(Serves 2)

  • Small Broccoli florets– about 25
  • Green chilly -1 chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Freshly squeezed Lemon juice to taste
  • Cumin seeds– ½ tsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp (optional)
  • Chana dal- 1 tsp ( optional)
  • Oil – 2 tsps
Cut the broccoli into small florets and also cut the the stem to small pieces.  Wash them in the water and keep on the side.

Now in a skillet add the oil, when it gets hot add the mustard seeds, Chana dal and cumin seeds. Fry of few seconds. Now add the green chilly. Fry for a second and then add the broccoli , salt and black pepper. Mix, close the lid and cook for five minutes. Drizzle some water if needed while cooking the broccoli florets. Do not over cook it, it should still be little crunchy. Add some freshly squeezed lemon juice and you are ready to enjoy a guilt free healthy goodness!
