What is Moringa?

Moringa is a plant native to India, and is commonly referred as Drumstick tree. Nearly every part of the Moringa tree is edible and has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties and health benefits.

Classified as super food, the many benefits of Moringa include-

  • Rich in antioxidants
  • May lower blood sugar levels
  • Contains important vitamins like A, C and E
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Can lower cholesterol
  • Improved digestion and many more.

How can I use Moringa?

Moringa Leaves- stir fries, tea, soups, smoothie, salads

Moringa Powder – smoothie, juice, energy balls, sprinkle in the soup, with luke warm water

Drumsticks (pods from the moringa tree)- curry, dal, sambar and soup.

Here is a recipe for smoothie made with dried and powdered leaves of moringa, sold in the markets as Moringa Powder.

Ingredients for Moringa Smoothie

Moringa Powder – sold online or health store. I bought mine from amazon.

Fruits – green grapes for the sweetness and green apple for the tartness

Spinach – preferably organic spinach

lime/lemon – for brightness and to balance out the flavors

How to make Moringa Green Smoothie?

Add a big handful of spinach, ¾ cup of green grapes, ½ green apple, 1 teaspoon of chia seeds, 1 tablespoon of moringa powder, few ice cubes and ¾ cup of water to a blender.

Blend until smooth and enjoy immediately.

How much moringa powder to add to my smoothie?

Add 1 tablespoon of moringa powder for this smoothie recipe. Do not get tempted to add more, as it will over power the smoothie taste.

What other fruits can I use in this smoothie?

Pineapple, mango, banana and kiwi.

In addition to smoothies, you can add them energy balls, juice, with plain water or coconut water, top it on your salads, mix it in chapati dough, breads, dips, soups, dals and many more.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon moringa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoon chia seeds
  • ¾ cup green grapes
  • ½ large green apple, cubed
  • 1 big handful of spinach
  • squeeze of lime
  • 3 ice cubes
  • ¾ cup water

Instructions

  • Add a big handful of spinach, ¾ cup of green grapes, ½ green apple, 1½ teaspoon of chia seeds, 1 tablespoon of moringa powder, few ice cubes and ¾ cup of water to a blender.
  • Blend until smooth and serve immediately.

Notes

I bought the organic moringa powder in amazon.
Do not get tempted to add more than recommended moringa powder, as it will over power the smoothie taste.
