Bengaluru Sandwich Recipe

Bengaluru Sandwich ( also called as Bun Nippat Masala) is a street style snack found in many places in Bengaluru.
Prep Time15 minutes
Cook Time5 minutes
Course: Chaat, Snack
Cuisine: Indian
Servings: 3

Ingredients

  • 3 large burger buns
  • 3 nippatu ( rice crackers) also called chekkalu in telugu
  • 3 tablespoons congress kadlekayi
  • 3 tablespoons green chutney
  • 2 tablespoons date chutney or to taste
  • 3 tablespoons sev
  • few thinly sliced pineapple wedges
  • few thinly sliced cucumber
  • few thinly sliced tomato
  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, peeled and grated
  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
  • salt to sprinkle
  • Kashmiri red chili powder to taste
  • chaat masala to taste

Instructions

  • Finely chop the onion, add a squeeze of lemon and soak it in water for 10 minutes to remove the strong raw flavor. Drain the water completely and set a side.
  • Add the onion, coriander leaves and grated carrot to a bowl and mix it well.
  • Slice the bun, apply butter/oil and roast in the tawa or a toaster till light brown.
  • Apply green chutney and tamarind chutney on both bun slices. Now crush a nippatu and place it on one of bun slice.
  • Now add congress kaldlekayi (masala peanuts) and onion carrot and coriander mixture. Sprinkle some salt and chaat masala.
  • Add sev, thinly sliced cucumber, pinch of salt, thinly sliced pineapple, red chili powder, chaat masala, and tomato.
  • Now cover with the other half of the bun which is applied with date and green chutney. Gently press the bun from the top and cut them to four pieces.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

When it comes measurements, there are no hard rules. You can add ingredients according to your taste.
Soaking the onion in water is optional. I prefer doing it as we do not like the raw flavor of onion.
