Gojju Avalakki recipe is a Karnataka Delicay. Gojju means gravy and Avalakki is poha/atukulu/ flaked rice. Its basically Poha in a sweet and spicy tamarind sauce. Very simple recipe but big on flavors.
I made Gojju Avalakki as a part on Navratri Day 6 Neivedyam.

Gojju Avalakki Recipe:
Ingredients:
- Flaked rice/Poha/Avalakki/Atukulu – 1 cup
- Peanuts- ¼th cup
- Sambar powder- ½ tsp or adjust according to taste
- Jaggery powder- ¼th to ½ tsp
- Tamarind juice to taste
- Salt to taste
- Chana dal- ½ tsp
- Urad dal- ½ tsp
- Cumin seeds – ¼th tsp
- turmeric powder- ⅛th tsp
- Dry red chilly- 2
- Littlt bit of crushed black pepper
- Few curry leaves
- Pinch of hing
- Dry/ fresh coconut- 2 tsps
- Coriander leaves for garnish
Procedure:
Take the poha and coarse grind it in a mixer. It should look like Sooji/Rava.
In a bowl put the tamarind juice, sambar powder, jaggery powder and salt.
Put this mixture in the coarsed grind poha. Mix. At this point the poha should be little wet. Leave on the side for ten minutes. After ten minuted the poha would have pluffed up.
Then take a pan add 3 tsps of oil, follwed by ½ tsp of mustard seeds. When mustard starts poping add the peanuts, chana dal, urad dal, cumin seeds, curry leaves, dry red chilly, turmeric powder and hing. Fry for few seconds. Then add the poha mixture. Cook for another three minutes. Turn of the heat. Add coriander leaves and coconut. Mix and its ready!
