What is rice to water ratio while making brown rice in instant pot ?
Rice to water ratio is very important on how your rice gets cooked. In this recipe I have used 2.5 of water for 2 cups of rice. This method of cooking gives you rice very similar to the one we get in the Asian take out places.
If you prefer the rice to be a bit more softer, add 2.75 cups of water for 2 cups of rice. The grains will be little softer, but not mushy. I feel this proportion is perfect for our South Indian meals.
Please note that the amount of water used to make brown rice, depends on what kind of brown rice you are using. Please make the rice with the above measurements and depending on how it turned out, you may want to reduce or increase the water and cook time.

Hi Madhu,
I just tried this brown rice as the first food to cook in my new Instant Pot. Turned out perfectly😀. Best brown rice I’ve ever cooked and no more hanging around watching it on stove top.👍
Madhavi

I prefer short grain brown rice. Would the cooking be the same?
Madhavi
Yes lisa…. the cook time should be same.
Try with one cup of rice and see how it turns out. If the rice is little under cooked, next time increase the cooking time by one or two minutes. But if the rice is mushy, slightly reduce the water amount.
Hope this helps!
